CITRIS Foundry LogoCITRIS Foundry is a University of California applied tech incubator that supports early stage startups developing disruptive solutions for today's biggest challenges. Its program provides:

  • $5,000-$10,000 in seed funding for startups, including office, meeting, and lab space, cloud computing, legal services, and education.
  • Customized mentorship specific to your needs from our extensive network of entrepreneurs, investors, industry experts, and fellow founders.
  • Access to design and prototyping tools at the CITRIS Invention Lab, as well as partner lab facilities at QB3 and the Marvell Nanolab.

UC Davis Food + Ag Entrepreneurship AcademyThe UC Davis Food + Ag Entrepreneurship Academy, February 6-8, 2017, is one of the nation's top programs for helping scientists, academics, entrepreneurs and policy makers commercialize food and ag innovation. The academy combines focused lectures, practical exercises, networking sessions and hands-on experiences in an intensive three-day format to help you explore how your research can make a broader impact in industry, the marketplace and the world. Co-sponsored by the UC Davis World Food Center. Full scholarships are available for those for whom the fee presents a barrier to participation. Big Ideas @ Berkeley LogoBig Ideas is an annual innovation contest that provides funding, support, and encouragement to interdisciplinary teams of undergraduate and graduate students who have creative solutions to address important social challenges. Each year, the contest awards up to $300,000 in prizes. Since its founding in 2006, the competition has inspired over 1,300 student-led projects aimed at solving the world's most pressing problems.

LAUNCH Startup Accelerator at UC Berkely: LAUNCH Startup Accelerator is focused on accelerating companies with the potential to solve our major challenges and unmet customer needs by preparing them for funding, incubation, or independent, sustainable growth. LAUNCH utilizes the immense resources of the University of California system and the proven Lean LaunchPad Curriculum to deliver a transformative experience for startups.

UC Hastings College of the Law SealThe Startup Legal Garage at UC Hastings is a selective program offering free legal services to early stage technology and biotech companies. We are currently accepting applications for our next session, which will run from January 9 through April 19, 2017. Past clients have come from a variety of industries, including biotech, medical devices, finance, mobile services, payments, gaming, identity protection, bitcoin and fashion.

Our program is divided into two modules: Tech and BioTech. In the Tech Module, the student/lawyer teams handle a wide variety of matters including corporate formation, intellectual property matters and strategy (trademark and copyright), capitalization tables, and basic contract and personnel issues. On the BioTech side, we focus exclusively on patent landscape surveys for life science companies. In both modules, the free legal services are worth an estimated $15,000 to $30,000 and are performed by top UC Hastings law students working under the supervision of attorneys from prominent law firms, such as Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Orrick, DLA Piper and Pillsbury.

Our criteria for eligibility are as follows:

  • Less than $1 million in funding
  • A tech or biotech component to your business model
  • Past the “wet-napkin” stage; i.e., have a beta, an MVP, or a product already launched
  • Ready to commit time to legal needs

Applications closed on December 11, 2016, at 5 p.m. Interviews of founders begins in late December and continues in early January, and accepted startups will be assigned to projects by January 9.
